My Journey Into Men's Wellness: From Personal Growth to Creating Wellma
Throughout my life, I've always been aware of the concept of wellness. As with many men, my initial understanding of it was predominantly focused on physical fitness. However, as I grew older and ventured on my personal wellness journey, I realized wellness extended far beyond just the physical realm—it encompassed mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing too.
Growing up, formal education on men's wellness was scanty at best. Gym classes and sports focused on physical prowess, but discussions about emotional awareness or communication skills were notably absent. A vital part of our wellbeing was overlooked, and as a result, I found myself ill-equipped to fully comprehend or communicate my feelings and emotions.
Recognizing this gap, I sought out wellness practitioners who could guide me on this journey. Through practices like yoga and meditation, I began to foster not just physical, but mental awareness as well. The stillness and introspection these practices brought allowed me to connect with myself on a deeper level. They became a grounding force in my life, a sanctuary I could return to whenever the whirlwind of life became too chaotic.
As I delved into the principles of Non-Violent Communication, I began to understand how to articulate my emotions and needs without resorting to aggression or defensiveness. It opened up new channels of understanding and empathy, both towards myself and others.
I also learned about the concept of conscious relating and the integration of masculine and feminine aspects within oneself. This awareness helped me challenge the conventional narratives of masculinity that often restrict men's emotional expression.
One of the most transformative experiences, however, was joining men's circles. These brotherhoods offered a supportive space for open dialogue, vulnerability, and shared experiences. Here, I was not alone in my journey, but a part of a collective striving for growth and understanding.
My journey into men's wellness has been ongoing, filled with growth, introspection, and continuous learning. It hasn't been an easy process, especially with the lack of cohesive information available online. The scattered nature of resources often led to confusion, making the path towards wellness feel daunting and inaccessible.
It was this struggle, and the recognition of a need for an integrated wellness platform, that led to the creation of Healers & Teachers. Our aim is to bridge the gap between seekers and practitioners, to foster a community that supports one another, and to provide timely information, knowledge, and access to relevant practitioners.
Wellma is still early in its journey, but our goal is clear. While my own journey has emphasized the importance of men's wellness, we understand that wellness is a universal pursuit. Our platform is a resource for everyone, regardless of gender, seeking to enhance their wellbeing. We cater to men's wellness, women's wellness, and various other categories relevant to mind, body, and spirit.
Our aim is to bridge the gap between seekers and practitioners of all backgrounds, to foster a community that supports one another, and to provide timely information, knowledge, and access to relevant practitioners. We believe that every individual has a unique wellness journey, and we're committed to supporting those diverse paths.
This Men's Health Month, we're highlighting the often overlooked importance of men's wellness. However, our mission is much broader. We invite everyone to join us in this mission, regardless of where you might be on your own wellness journey. Let's embark on this path towards comprehensive wellness together. Because every step we take in our personal growth is a step towards creating a healthier, more understanding world.
